Laurel Harrington has always been fascinated with the human body, from fitness to nutrition, from energy work to the mind-body connection. Her beliefs are grounded in Buddha’s words, “To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” Laurel began her health career path at Hawaii Pacific University where she studied nursing. However, solely relying on modern medicine did not jive with Laurel’s perspectives on health. She often reflected on the Buddha quote, specifically honing in on “to keep.” She realized that our natural state is one of health, but health is affected by conscious decisions, everyday. This inspired her to attend the Cayce/Reilly Massotherapy program where she studied bodywork modalities. Shortly after graduation she obtained the National Massage and Bodywork License and the Maryland State License for massage therapy. Laurel has completed a certificate in personal training further integrating an understanding of the impact of exercise on the health of the skeletomuscular system. She believes the two modalities are an integral part of the journey to obtaining and maintaining optimal health. She continues to build her knowledge of health connecting it to the importance nutrition and physical fitness. Laurel is an avid trainer/teacher who enjoys playing and teaching surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, yoga, circuit training and other sports. Her fascination with the human mind, body, spirit balance only continues to grow as she pursues her bachelor degree in complementary and alternative health with the ultimate educational goal of a doctorate in naturopathic medicine. She aspires to achieve a health practice that will guide the individual to their own unique, balanced self.
